The Sound of Music, the Rogers and Hammerstein Broadway play (1959)which later became a hugely successful film (1965)starring Julie Andrews, directed by Robert Wise, had many notable songs. The three I liked personally:
1. Do-Re-Mi
2. So Long, Farewll
3. Climb Every Mountain
Yes, but you need to refer to a specific moment in a movie. So if the Do-Re-Mi song scene is in the top 5 then list it. This is not just about the song, but the moment in the movie as well.
The moment in the film that I remember clearly was indeed the Von Trapp children singing Do-Re-Mi, but there were actually more moving moments in this film. The children singing So Long, Farewell to the guests of their parents as they departed to bed was beautiful, but Climb Every Mountain was THE moment, that best embodies this film. We hear this song as the family prepares to flee Austria for Switzerland. So, it would have to be Climb Every Mountain as the best song for an important moment in the film.
sound of music is a girlie flick. my wife watches it everytime it comes on WHEW WHAT IS THE POINT???. 'Stand by Me' when the lads are walking down the railway. Now that is a scene! What about High Noon? "do not for sake me, oh my darlin'." or Shane "I Ride an Old Paint (I'm A-Leavin' Cheyenne)"? How can you come up with just 5 ? gee whiz. What about Wizard of Oz when the little guys (munchkins) represent the lollypop guild? Now that is theatre and it is a proud moment for us short people. FYI Some people think it says Lollypop Kids but that is merely a mondegreen.
Do NOt Forsake Me Oh My Darlin is perhaps the best theme song ever, but it is not performed in the movie, so it doesn't count, sorry I make the rules.....your other choices are top notch
